Biography

Newton has been home to me for 31 years.  As a resident of 3 different wards (1,5,7), I have experienced the rich diversity of the people and history of Newton’s many villages. A product of the Newton schools, I attended Countryside Elementary, Meadowbrook Junior High, and graduated from Newton South High School with the Class of 1980.  As a Francis Ouimet Scholar, I attended the University Of Massachusetts at Amherst, graduating in 1984 with a Bachelor Of Fine Arts degree in Communication Studies. I am married with 2 children in the Newton School System.

Professionally, I have worked as a Television Sound Engineer for the last 18 years serving Local, National and International Broadcast, Corporate and Industrial clients. I have been a member of the National Press Corps for 14 years and I have been honored with 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Location Sound.  My work has brought me to many local, national and international locations over the years.  I am currently a member of IBEW Local 1212 and NABET Local 16.

I believe I have many strengths that make me uniquely qualified to serve as your Alderman.  Perhaps most importantly I am a proactive advocate.  I like to get things done.  Whether incrementally or rapidly it is important, I believe, to show that you are making progress in addressing issues and solving problems.  My professional experience with people in team-based environments has made me focused and patient, yet persistent in gently nudging projects to completion.  Interaction with people of different cultural, economic, political, and social backgrounds has made me open minded, compassionate and sensitive to different view points and agendas.  I firmly view the position of Alderman as non-partisan in every sense of the word (i.e., cultural, economic, political, and social).  I am registered as an independent voter and represent no special interest groups or agendas either inside or outside of the city that would seek to undermine the process of inclusive, representative government.
